AVF 8: 5 days / 4 nights flying package to Samburu & Mara

Day 01: Nairobi –  Samburu
Depart Nairobi on Safari Link Aviation or Air Kenya Aviation. The flight departs at either 0800 hrs or 1020 hrs depending on the day of the week, to arrive Samburu at 0920 hrs and 1130 hrs respectively.

You are met at the airstrip on arrival and transferred to your safari lodge with a short game drive en-route.

Check-in to your lodge for lunch, a relaxing afternoon by the pool or a siesta before embarking on your afternoon game drive of Samburu Game Reserve at 1500 hrs. Return thereafter to your lodge for dinner and overnight - Samburu Serena Lodge or similar

The Samburu National Reserve is unique scenically and is also home to some of unique wildlife found in this country including The Gerenuk, The Grevy’s Zebra and Reticulated Giraffe. The Samburu (Maasai cousin’s!) abound here in their ochre (possible is a visit to their village in between the two game drives on this day – this can be arranged through your driver / guide and entry fee settled direct)

Day 02: Samburu
A full day in Samburu with two game drives (an early morning game drive and a late afternoon game drive – each of approx. 3 hrs); all meals and overnight as above

The Samburu game reserve is famous for the ‘Big Cats’ – the Leopard, Cheetah and the Lion.  This was the original home to the world famous artist Karen Blixen and her Lion friend  ‘Elsa’ of the ‘Born Free’ movie.

Day 03: Samburu / Mara
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for a flight to the Mara (departs at 0930 hrs to arrive at 1100 hrs)

Upon arrival in the Mara, you are met and transferred to your safari lodge with a short game drive en-route. Check-in to your lodge for lunch, a relaxing afternoon by the pool or a siesta before embarking on your afternoon game drive of the Maasai Mara at 1500 hrs. Return thereafter to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

The rolling grasslands of the Maasai Mara offer ideal game viewing and photographic opportunities and the grassy plains are broken by rocky outcrops which are favorite midday resting places for Lion. This is where millions of Wildebeest cross the Mara River from the Serengeti National park of Tanzania to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve of Kenya - an annual spectacular event, which brings along thousands of plains game and predators to the Mara, making the park a beehive of ‘wildlife activities’

Dinner and overnight at your game lodge – Mara Serena, Mara Sarova Lodge or similar depending on availability

Day 04: Mara
A full day in the Mara with two game drives (an early morning and an afternoon game drive); all meals and overnight at your lodge as above

Some of the other animals that could be found here include elephant, black rhino, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. Hippo and crocodile abound in the muddy brown waters of the rivers, which traverse this reserve.

Day 05: Mara / Nairobi
An early morning wake up call with a hot beverage -  Leave for an early morning game drive in search of the ‘night hunters’ as they retire for the day. You are likely to spot the Big cats (Lion, leopard and Cheetah) at this time before returning to you lodge for breakfast.

Transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi (departs at 1100 hrs to arrive at approx. 1215 hrs.

PS: On this day of the itinerary, one can arrange to return to Nairobi by the afternoon flight at an extra minimal cost to cover the extra lunch and a midmorning game drive. There is a flight that returns at 1600 hrs to arrive Nairobi at approx. 1730 hrs, that gives one an opportunity to explore the Mara further on a mid-morning game drive in search for some of the animal species not yet spotted on the previous game drives.

End of travel arrangements-

Brief Hotels’ description in the Mara:

Mara Serena Safari Lodge set on the saddle of a hill, overlooks the 1800 square km of the rolling plains, woodlands and rivers that make-up the Maasai Mara triangle – one of the worlds’ richest wildlife sanctuaries. No other lodge can boast such a spectacular of the surrounding landscape, game and birdlife. It is on this very much terrain stretching endlessly before the lodge where the annual migrations take place, when millions of Wildebeest, Zebra and gazelle transverse the landscape to feed on the rich new grass and give birth to their young. Accommodation is in 71 rooms all overlooking the plains below. Additional features include a floodlit swimming pool, poolside barbeque massage and beauty treatment, a water hole (where animals come to salt-lick), hippo pool breakfasts, musical Evenings, Maasai dances, wildlife films, resident naturalist lectures and game drives among others.

Mara Sarova Lodge is Located on the Eastern side of the famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve, close to the Sekenani Gate. The camp is set on an elevation surrounded by two streams. The grounds are beautifully laid out with trees and plants, and electrical fences surround the lodge.
